The OLC would like to extend a warm welcome to another new member of our staff, Terri Rice. We’ll let Terri introduce herself and speak about her position:
I am the new Learning Advisor for the Ontario Literacy Coalition. I will be working with a project team of stakeholders at designated pilot sites to collaboratively plant and implement literacy and essential skills programs that meet the needs of employers and workers. I will help conduct needs assessments to determine workplace training needs and the environment needed to ensure successful programming. I will also help to develop a communication strategy tailored to the specific workplace that encourages the involvement of employees in the programs that are offered.
Having worked on the factory floor with over 18 year’s experience, I was given the opportunity to attend a workplace training program in my workplace. That day, quite literally, changed my life. It invigorated my quest for knowledge and education, through which many doors have opened. I was able to advance to the position of adult educator working for over 10 years as a facilitator and evaluator of workplace programs.
Based on my experience, I recognize the value and power of such programs, not only for the employer and the employee but for communities and society as a whole.
I am enthusiastic about this new project and learning experience with the Ontario Literacy Coalition.
